Knowledge and know-how are the main sources of wealth in today’s world. They make it possible to transform ideas, which are by nature intangible, into tangible goods.
Education and research are primary options for scientific, technical training and innovation. A developing country cannot afford the luxury of education for education’s sake or training its active citizens merely for the pleasure of knowledge. All education in Haiti must be oriented toward concrete results in terms of direct impact on the country’s development. The cost of technical training is very high, as we know. But this is about making a strategic choice for the modernization and development of the country.
PREPEP intends to completely reform our education system in this sense, starting from the basic education cycle. Haitian schoolchildren will be exposed very early to scientific reasoning, to awakening their interest in material objects created by the human mind, and to innovation through the improvement or transformation of what already exists. From the secondary cycle onward, they will have to participate in a technological project appropriate to their level, even under the guidance of their teachers, whose relevance and quality will play a major role in their annual success.
As for higher education, the disorder, incoherence, and dramatic shortcomings that prevail there are distressing indicators of the absence of a national policy in this crucial sector. This is hardly surprising.
